Let’s face it, stepping out of our comfort zones is challenging enough. Our own fears, & doubts, among other things, make it all too easy to avoid the risks inherent in the newness of a bold choice.
But what happens when you find yourself ripped out of your routine and tossed into an individual and global “discomfort zone”? Not your own choice per say, but it feels like having been flung, (without preparation), into a “discomfort zone” beyond anything you’d choose or even imagined?
If you’ve ever been to a vipassana retreat (zero speech) you’ll know what it’s like be alone with your thoughts and feelings, without the normal external & internal dialogues & routines that inadvertently distract us from our subterranean shadowed patterns of judgement, uncertainty, fear, anxiety, projections, etc.
The main difference is the structure and supportive nature in a retreat. You can stop whenever you want; there’s also support at hand if your mind becomes too unruly or too dark. The fact that support is around and knowing it’s all by choice, actually fuels the transformational process in this type of retreat.
The result is the emergence of a new awareness; a different way of relating to ourselves and our worlds. The judgments, degrees of perfectionism, the tendencies to create narratives from the raw worry and fears we’ve held onto and nursed, as well as the patterns they’ve formed, become apparent and fall away with the disciplined practice.
While the “COVID Shut-Down” is not the same as being on a vipassana retreat, it has set up, a radical degree of restriction, creating a magnified experience of the suffering we perpetuate for ourselves at the level of the mind.
Not having access to our routines and coping skills that keep us safe but unaware, the shut-down has presented the same challenges involved in the restrictions of a retreat, not only for those who have symptoms but for everyone globally.

Have you noticed your emotions being extremely up & down? Have you experienced the mind racing with notions of “what-if’s”? Do you find yourself losing track of what day it is because the usual linear-time markers have shifted so radically, that your footing on your day feels off?
Most, if not all of us, are racing to adjust all aspects of our lives; work, family, exercise, food, community, and more, while simultaneously dealing with our fears and insecurities around our futures, our health, our supply sources for food, money & connections.
This is another difference, since in a vipassana retreat, much of all of what we are currently needing to attend to, is taken cared of ahead of time or by facilitators on site. In the shut-down we are our sole facilitators.
It’s easy to get lost in the whirlwind vortex or mind-noise, lose our balance & spiral into excessive worry-energies; fear-energies; or poverty consciousness energies. If we consider that these non-material things (thoughtforms) are only frequencies that we make Real, by our attachments to them, we can begin to understand that shifting these energies is a technology.
We can use the opportunity to tune into our own type of “energetic vipassana retreat” of sorts. It’s about developing awarenesses of these mindsets as they are activated and in motion, while using intuitive energy-work practices to shift our inner realities, so that our outer realities follow suit. In other words, we can experiment with being our own vipassana retreat facilitators.

Surrender, the Solar Plexus Chakras & the Sahasrara
The opposite of surrender is over-attachment. The degree of difficulty we have surrendering, plus the amount of over-attachment we have, gets lodged, primarily, in the solar plexus chakras. (Yes, you have a front & back solar plexus chakra). This restricts the activation of the sahasrara (sanskrit: crown) chakra.
Below, are a few tools to clarify energies of worry, fear, anxiety & general stress, making surrender easier to practice, and allows the sahasrara chakra more activation; more receptivity to the solutions and opportunities, waiting for us to receive.
Channel Changing of the Ajna & Throat Chakras
A clarified solar plexus chakra, will allow for the space to change the energetic-channel which your mindset has been set to, either non-consciously or by the delusion that somehow remaining on that frequency will facilitate the change we are wishing for.
Because the universal law that “like attracts like” is in play we must change the channel which the ajna & throat chakras have been non-consciously or mistakenly set to. Ways to reset the channels to begin to direct the flow of energy into more desireable outcomes are listed below.
Mindset and energetic shifting is simple, though, in practice, never easy. Be patient, kind & consistent with yourself, and you will see change.
Enjoying the Show & the Heart Chakra
“Open the heart”: simple words, yet as easy to say, as they are difficult to actually practice. Nothing could be as understated and simple, yet profoundly challenging and scary at the same time.
Tension in the mind & body means tension in the heart, and the most effective way to become revitalized after surrendering and switching energetic channels is opening to any emotions arising from within, because its by means of the heart chakra that we process feelings.
When we tense up and get caught in the pattern of holding on, instead of surrendering, the activation level of heart chakra is compromised. You can solve for this by applying the tools listed below.
Healing Emotional Fall-out
Tool #1 – Surrender, the Solar Plexus Chakras & the Sahasrara
How do you surrender if the only way you believe you can stay alive and safe is to worry? How do you surrender if the only thing that creates the sensation of safety is the act of worrying, itself? It’s not too hard to see how the mind creates it’s own mazes. To get out of the maze, energetically create more space within your auric and chakral fields and especially in the front and back Solar Plexus and the Crown chakras.
Combine slow, abodominal pelvic inhalations (holding at the top and bottom of each breath for 1-3 seconds) with smooth soundings of OM or AMEN on the exhalation. Use your awareness to move the energy, focusing first on your heart area, then on your crown, then on both.
1-2 breaths for each section of focus, no more than 9 breaths all total. Then, be aware of your whole body (or your hands & feet) to spread the energy to the whole body. This helps the mind & body surrender, allowing for more space to understand & feel free enought to know you can choose different mental thought processes.
Tool #2 – Channel Changing of the Ajna & Throat Chakras
Surrender slows the brain down & now we have space to shift the channels of programming at the ajna & throat chakras. Use a few drops of essential oil of lavender (promotes communication) or ylang-ylang (light-heartedness) on the heart area and throat area of the body.
Next, upon noticing your thoughts, label your thoughts by quality; ie, the thought, “what if i can’t replace my income?” can be labeled as hopeless, doubtful or fearful for starters. Then choose an opposing feeling (hopefulness, or feeling supported) while breathing and focusing with your eyes closed on the feeling of choice (you can focus on a visual of the word itself “s-u-p-p-o-r-t-e-d”.)
Your chakras will call in pictures, and scenes to match the frequencies of your new choices=”changing the channel”. They may also, bring you power to act on certain information you receive. Make this routine & you are bound to see results.
Tool #3 – Enjoying the Show & the Heart Chakra
After you change the channel, you’ll want to fine tune the color and add more definition and brilliance to the new energetic reality you are creating.
The heart chakra, becomes more activated and engaged when we become involved in acts of service or giving so choose to move the energy in an outward expression of self-care or community building.
It’s a universal law that what we put out energetically returns to us, and you are maximizing your good arriving in a timely fashion, as you activate your inner experience into a physical expression of movement.

Healing from the emotional fallout of this imposed confinement is a new arena for most of us, so remember to be gentle and allowing. The practice itself, will create awareness of all the ways the psyche limits itself in the act of nursing judgmental energies, in an attempt to solve for any discomfort, but the gifts you’ll gain through your energetic practice will serve you for many more situations ahead, putting you on the fast track of transformation.
