If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking. ~Buddhist Saying
Tips for almanac use: All the aspects can be felt in advance of the date of occurrence. It is good policy to view these as due dates for various energies and prepare accordingly for one’s context. Some slower interactions can be felt a month in advance, so it’s wise to read ahead and ritual up. When we proactively manifest these symbols then the world doesn’t have to do it for us.
Well, we’re still here, whirling around with rather obstructed views. March starts off with heavy form-destroying force; so pro-activate or something good could get damaged. By the 11th, a very new dynamic blasts onto the scene and presents us with the syllabus for the coming season and much more. The rest of the month is super rich and intricate, but may seem mostly about finding equilibrium after the blast on the 11th. It’s misleading though, because there’s some massive flooding of sorts coming in early April that we are supposed to be preparing for despite everything being on fire.
Venus sextiles Uranus on the 1st, prompting some late-in-the-game adjustments of our aspirations and goals. We may rebel from releasing the fantasies of yore but need to make room for new flowers in the garden. Diversity is important.
Venus moves into Aquarius on the 1st, where she will stay until the 26th. This asks us to create joy from within instead of relying on external yumminess to open the door. Things are not always what we hoped but it’s still best to focus on loving what is, or at least making the most of it.
Mars sextiles Pluto on the 3rd, potentially stimulating some confused drama or some profound catharsis. This would be good for choosing courage and trust instead of fearing what we can’t control; if it wasn’t so scary. But we really don’t have any choice but to push it along and take out the trash, so don’t bother fighting it.
The New Moon is in Pisces on the 4th, at 12: 46pm (PST). This lunation is truly begging us to let go and flow but there are some ‘road blocks’ (in the water). Somehow we must also integrate new ways of relating to everyone and everything. This is tough because full flow and proper discernment are not easily fused. Stretch those perspectives.
Mercury conjoins Uranus on the 9th. This is a rather important aspect despite its brevity. It’s our last chance to break through our delusions and open to the blind spots in our perception before the new game commences on the 11th. De-select oblivion and break on through.
Mercury moves into Aries on the 9th, where he will linger until May 15th due to retrogradation. It will probably be a somewhat fast and ruthless time with many a pop quiz on the way. Peace and calm will be challenged by the quick tempo of the ceaseless drumbeat. Embrace these piquant energies or feel the burn.
Venus sextiles Jupiter on the 11th, trying to lighten the mood and get us dancing, but it may be more like shaking. We are all standing on a precipice and now is the time to anticipate the plunge by managing dread and foreboding. There are no guarantees; it is freaky; but it is also exciting.
Uranus moves into Aries on the 11th at 4:52pm. He will be there until May 15th of 2018! Initially, this shift is going to be super potent and will demand some immediate adjustments and test our nerves. In the longer term: It’s a project around keeping it real without adding volatility or craziness. This requires self-mobilization, excitement, an open being and profound adaptability. Forget everything you thought was going to happen; take off whatever colored glasses you’ve been wearing and take a whiff of the new whacky brew that is cooking in the existential kitchen. The change train is leaving the station and there’s no going back.
Mercury squares Pluto on the 13th, confronting us with some fresh old fears. It’s like they say: if you stare too long into the abyss, it stares back at you. Psychologically, this is not a time to over-think but it is great for receiving messages from the heroes within our underworld. For more practical purposes, though, don’t study it, just flush it; you should know where it came from or shouldn’t want to know.
Venus trines Saturn on the 14th, supporting practicality and productivity. We should not be over-extending ourselves or our resources at this time, despite temptations. However, longer-term planning is supported, as long as it’s prudent. Also, make sure to express appreciation to the helpful ones; gratitude is important.
Mercury conjoins Jupiter on the 15th, frothing up some big visions and ideas, or maybe just big talk. This is an important opportunity to harmonize our higher belief systems with our moment-to-moment expectations. Pulling this off fully, however, is not realistic, so just shoot for accepting paradox and neutralizing undue polarization.
Mercury opposes Saturn on the 18th, swinging our study to more functional realms. Now that we have a new to do list, there are things that have to be put into practice, carefully. But beware: many of life’s conundrums start with discrepancies between theory and practice.
The Full Moon falls in Late Virgo on the 19th at 11:10 am (PST). This lunation is pushing us to align with our paths as best we can. Metaphorically, it wants us to glide along the low-friction train tracks of our lives, but there are no tracks to be seen except through the intuitive lens. So, let’s clean that internal windshield instead of waiting for the bumpiness of the ride to suggest a course correction.
The Sun moves into Aries on the 20th, adding more zest to the upcoming fire fest. Everybody is rather occupied with their worlds and we would be well served to avoid getting pulled out of our own or off our center. And take care to not knock into others in the flurry.
The Sun conjoins Uranus on the 21st, pulling a jack-in-the-box out of our own heads to see if we laugh or take fright. This aspect may make about as much sense as that sentence. It is good policy to expect the unforeseeable and maintain looseness, because it’s going to be an exhausting and exhilarating ride.
Venus conjoins Neptune on the 26th. It makes me think of bringing the ostensible rewards of the future more into the now, at least in spirit. The more fantastical dreams should be relinquished, or is it lovingly demolished, because they mostly get in the way of present-tense enjoyment. We can choose to laugh with the gods.
Venus moves into Pisces on the 26th, where she will stay until April 20th. This will help us love the mysteries of life’s unfurling. It could enhance times of solitude and also facilitating feeling connected. Get lost in music and dreams, dance through it, because we need those refreshments these days.
The Sun squares Pluto on the 28th, dredging up more ego issues and fears for resolution. Toss the ‘shoulds’ into the furnace and move forward with less weight of obligation and self-condemnation. Also, don’t compare yourself directly to others, or vice versa, it usually just adds confusion and does not tend to be fair.
Jupiter opposes Saturn on the 28th, which is a complex combination that does not summarize simply, (as if any really did.) Beliefs are taking a beating right now and should be tossed against the wall to see how they hold up. On the other hand, fears should be fully exposed to the light to see if they are warranted; then, even if they are, they should be appropriately sequestered and harnessed towards wise caution. Also, relationships will need balancing and control issues should definitely be internally dissolved or at least not inflicted onto others. And, of course, blame/causation fallacies should be completely abolished because clear-cut or equally valid they are not. If you pull these off, let us know how.
Mercury goes retrograde on the 30th until April 23rd. This is a deconstruction game centered on inchoate brain patterns: can we concurrently work through our own while not (over-)reacting to others’? When our vision is limited, it is often wise not to fill in the blanks, for they will often reflect rather reveal: To imagine one knows what can not be seen is fertilizer for folly.
Well, yeah, who really knows where March will spit us out? But we can rest assured that April will be ready to commence mulching. Much will be fast; some will be spurious; all will be itching to figure out what in the world is what. There’s a lot of goodness brewing, but it demands that we pass a re-initiation into self or look forward to taking the test again. Thankfully, it will make more sense in the rearview mirror: like an ongoing gift from Epimetheus (“afterthought”). For now, buckle the safety belt, helmet and ready the rest: Let’s try to enjoy the ride.
