What matters in life is not what happens to you, but what you remember and how you remember it.
~Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Tips for almanac use: All the aspects can be felt in advance of the occurrence. It is good policy to view these as due dates for various energies and prepare accordingly for your context. It’s akin to bringing an umbrella with you when rain is expected, but it also helps us to not take the weather personally. When we proactively manifest these symbols then the world doesn’t have to do it for us. Choose to be con(with)-siderate(the stars).

May, May, here it comes. Well, the good news is that it’s not April, or March, which were quite tough for some, but hopefully productive. So, in May we’re all still digesting recent things and trying to keep up. And extracting as much learning as we can from recent lessons seems to be a big theme. How we tell ourselves our own stories is such a crucial part of living and could probably use some adjustments. Another theme seems to be getting back to a more natural rhythm with our lives and our habits: eating well, sleeping well, grooming well, dancing and laughing and everything natural are all on the list.
Mercury opposes Saturn on the 2nd at 5:56 pm (pacific), pushing us to keep whittling away at our to-do lists. The trick is to make sure to give ourselves enough credit for surviving and doing what we can. It’s too easy with this pairing to indulge in unnecessary ‘shoulds’ and flirt with defeatism. Stay on task, but focus on each step, not the whole staircase.
Venus moves into Aries on the 2nd at 6:21 pm (pacific), where she will stay until the 28th. This will be rather volatile as she will be grand-crossing soon enough and thus continuing April’s madness into newer territory. The idea is consistency of action and pressure release. Don’t wait too long to address imbalances. Let us keep ourselves busy and out of trouble.
The Sun trines Pluto on the 3rd at 5:34 pm (pacific), giving us a chance to get more centered, grounded and practical. Mostly this will mean ditching our paranoid tendencies and getting back into a more flowing rhythm with things. Reclaim any energy that has been leaking and seek pleasure in the simple and sweet.
The Sun sextiles Jupiter on the 6th at 2:54 am (pacific), prompting some reflection on where we would like to take ourselves next. What goals would we like to strive for at this point? How can we nurture our newness into greater stability? Caring for the body and soul should be top priorities.
Mercury moves into Gemini on the 7th at 7:57 am (pacific), where he will stay until the 29th and then revisit from June 17th through July 12th. This will find us seeking out more communication and social stimulation. It’s definitely a somewhat frenetic energy though, and is also asking us to lessen our internal polarizations by tweeking the mind back to the center when it starts swinging like a pendulum.
The Sun opposes Saturn on the 10th at 11:28 am (pacific), demanding that we draw healthy boundaries for ourselves. This is a time to lessen our susceptibility to psychic and emotional drains. Walks in nature, time spent processing our issues, and dancing would be recommended. Support yourself.
Venus opposes Mars on the 11th at 2:27 am (pacific), sending some fireballs of intensity up into the ethers. This could be very volatile if things have been stewing under the surface. But either way, the idea is to reconfigure all our relationships into more realness, but without sharpness. Be challenging; just don’t try to make up for lost time.
Mercury squares Neptune on the 11th at 5:35 am (pacific), lending a strong need for clarity that can only be found between the lines of our mental narratives. The idea is to stop searching for that which cannot be found. Peace and stillness are the goal, but the mind has to be wrangled into these states. And make sure to ask questions before jumping to conclusions.
Mercury trines Mars on the 12th at 9:02 am (pacific), offering a chance for us to cut through some blocks in our awareness. Look for the blind spots and clear the path. Lots could come up for people, particularly anger, impatience and frustration. But these can also be channeled into more persistent commitments to bettering our lots.
Venus squares Pluto on the 14th at 10:47 am (pacific), stirring the pot of our depths to see what still needs undoing. It’s a good time to keep purging our inner collection of fears and insecurities, judgments and projections. It would be wise to un-symbol-ize various people in our lives, to make them back into being people, not characters in our dramas. Withdraw any projections and reject any lobbed at you. Refresh what you can.
The Full Moon is on the 14th at 12:16 pm (pacific) in 23 degrees Scorpio. This appears to be largely about recovery: primarily from the last month, but it could stretch much deeper into our cores. Getting back into our rhythms, reviewing and digesting recent tumult, letting old feelings flow out, and much more could be on the menu. Let the dramatic transform into the natural.
Mercury sextiles Venus and Uranus on the 15th at 2:54 pm and 4:22 pm (pacific), possibly initiating a flurry of communications and developments. This is a shaky and somewhat crazed situation, so think things through before speaking out. The ideal would be to use this for further breakthroughs in relationships and union, but it will require embracing the chaos of living together.
Venus conjoins Uranus on the 15th at 4:54 pm (pacific), requiring some inventive shifts in our relationships and value structures. Being truthful to ourselves without stepping on toes is the idea. But it’s most important to let go of tendencies to be overly tolerant: put your requests out there while you can; ask for what you want. And, as always, don’t try to make up for lost time.
Venus squares Jupiter on the 18th at 8:31 am (pacific), pushing us towards deeper understandings and more wholeness. It’s been a rocky road for some time and this will find us wanting to take a step back and make sense of it all, hopefully with loved ones. Process and keep processing; there’s no rush. And don’t overdo anything that isn’t love.
Mars stations direct on the 19th at 6:31 pm (pacific), finally launching us into the resolution sector of his long retrograde. Now it’s on us to put the pieces back together and see how well everything has held up. The idea is to maintain and increase balance in all things, but especially in how we challenge and assert ourselves and how much we give ourselves away. It will take time to establish what we really want, and that’s fine, but keep working on establishing that delicate middle ground of being yourself while being wholly in relationship with others, the world, and even existence itself.
The Sun enters Gemini on the 20th at 7:59 pm (pacific), bringing more mental energy into the mix. This is a great time for feeding ourselves information and weighing our decisions in life. It’s also good for retooling our inner dialogues towards less extremism. But let’s not spread ourselves too thin.
Jupiter trines Saturn on the 24th at 10:48 am (pacific), lending a sort of measuring rod for us to gauge our progress and position. Long term goals are the main focus, but could use some adjustments based on our current situations. What do we need to revitalize our passion and enthusiasm? How can we incorporate more of these inspirations into our daily grind? Shoot high, but, as always, don’t indulge in expectations or attachment to outcomes.
Mercury sextiles Venus on the 28th at 6:58 am (pacific), bringing a breath of fresh air, or at least asking us to create some. This is perfect for ridding ourselves of silliness, stubbornness, selfishness, insecurities, and all sorts of anything that keeps us stuck in old programming. Refresh the mind and yearn for more.
The New Moon is on the 28th at 11:40 am (pacific) in 7 degrees of Gemini. This is quite a potent lunation for mental renewal and getting back on track. The main focus is on including the feeling body, the intuition, and instinct in the mental world. The mind can squander so much energy retracing the same tracks and is better served by checking in with our feelings. Basically, it’s about breaking out of outdated habits of being and thinking. Let us restart our computers.
The Sun squares Neptune on the 28th at 4:44 pm (pacific), asking us to take some time and space to ourselves for reconnection. Be wary of misunderstandings and energetic leakiness. Instead, try some swimming, meditation, soothing music, warm tea, et cetera.
Venus moves into Taurus on the 28th at 6:46 pm (pacific), where she will stay until June 23rd. This will help us reconnect to our roots and bring more enjoyment to the simple pleasures of life, but we have to help make this happen. This is our chance to take better care of our animal selves and, hopefully, recover more stability after busy changes. Let us take good care of ourselves.
Mercury moves into Cancer on the 29th at 2:12 am (pacific), where he will stay until June 17th, and revisit again July 12th through the 31st. This is a good time to further this mind-body connection theme that has already been floating around this month. Yoga, exercise, dancing, and playing games all tend to facilitate this internal connectivity. In our modern world of eternal stimulation, it’s more important than ever to reaffirm our selfhood and find calmness and stillness. Take more baths.
The Sun trines Mars on the 31st at 1:01 am (pacific), promoting some wild energy and the urge to learn and go and do. We should definitely do something; channel the restlessness into action instead of boredom. It will vary from person to person, of course, but we have to take the initiative to entertain ourselves.
So, yeah. There’s still a lot going on and May does feature a lot of digesting and processing of all the all-ness. Staying flexible and receptive to all the adjustments is still no easy feat, but what choice do we have but to try. It’s a tough month to summarize because it will be so specific to what individuals have already been working through. But it’s easy to say that we are not yet done with this astrological meal, so we had better keep on keeping on. Let us stay calmly diligent.
