August Reflections of Love

Summer Greetings to our friends and community,

August~of a quality inspiring mingled admiration and reverence; having an aspect of solemn dignity or grandeur; sublime; majestic; having exalted birth, character, state, or authority.

In the Northern Hemisphere August is the zenith of summer, shining with fruition and bringing with it a cycle of harvesting and a reverence for the fullness of life. There is ripening in the air and the slow luxurious warmth melts away hurry and worry. In all its fullness and abundance it is especially easy to feel deep gratitude for this amazing earth experience we are all having together.

August is also the birth month of my “no-longer-in-form” but “ever-present-in-spirit” beloved canine, Thule. For me, Thule embodied the sublime, majestic, exalted energy of the time in which he showed up on earth. The time since he dropped his body has been full and complex: weaving layers of honoring, celebrating, missing and "getting-on-with-tending-the-present" simultaneously. Our human capacity to hold all these disparate forces at once is truly amazing and has exponentially raised my capacity for compassionate living.
When we are deeply attached, our heart breaks more easily, but if we work intelligently with that breaking--which is actually more a raw openness than an actual shattering--we will find a greater intimacy with Life.
