Greetings to our friends and community,
The other day I was scrolling through images of “mother and child artwork” looking for images for this newsletter. I was overcome with tenderness for this primary relationship and all it represents.
The deep connection, care, compassion, nurturance, unconditional love and firm guidance captured in the paintings and drawings moved me deeply. Still processing our recent local disasters and dismayed at the increasingly fractured social world around me I was feeling raw and thin skinned. I know I am not alone in this. I was reminded to mother myself. To soothe, comfort and care for myself as a mother would; as my own mother did.
In extending that care and compassion to myself I felt bolstered and enabled to extend it to others again. I am reconnected to my own sense of connection. As we navigate our way through this time of transition in the cultural death and rebirth cycle, may we approach ourselves and each other with tenderness, compassion, love and guidance so that we may find our sure footing in order to spread our wings again.
To paraphrase the title of Alice Walker's beautiful book of poems, "Hard times require furious dancing and abundant self-care."
Love and appreciation to all those who mother!
Beltaine Blessings!
