As the Capricorn Full Moon illuminates the sky and activates our deep potential for abundance, it's a potent time for creating new prosperity practices and rituals.
For this full moon, we will meditate on the symbolism and specific guidance of the tarot for an understanding of the energetics of wild abundance.
Symbolism: In the tarot, this is the traditional card that represents both the planet Saturn and the sign of Capricorn. The Devil stands on a pedestal, holding a torch downwards. Below, a man and woman are chained to the pedestal, their chains loose, symbolizing self-imposed bondage and limitation.
Guidance: During this full moon, it urges us to examine our material attachments and break free from self-imposed limitations, aligning with Capricorn’s focus on discipline and responsibility. As an alternate meaning of the Devil card, I often refer to James Wanless’ interpretation in the Voyager Tarot:
“Devil spelled backwards is ‘lived.’ Devil’s Play means to live fully and joyously, and to work and play to the point where play and work are the same. Celebrate the energy of your creative energy.”
Symbolism: Aside from the Devil in the tarot, The World is another tarot card that represents the planet Saturn. It features a dancing figure within a wreath holding two batons, symbolizing completion and integration. She is surrounded by four figures (an angel, eagle, bull, and lion), representing the culmination of a journey and balance in the material world.
Guidance: The World card embodies Capricorn’s drive for accomplishment and mastery, signifying the achievement of goals and the integration of life’s lessons into a unified whole.
Symbolism: In the tarot system, Pentacles is the suit related to the element earth and the signs of Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo. An elderly man observes a family scene, surrounded by symbols of wealth: ten pentacles, a courtyard, and loyal dogs. The archway behind them opens to an estate, symbolizing legacy and enduring success.
Guidance: This card reflects Capricorn’s themes of long-term achievement and legacy, encouraging us to focus on building lasting security and honoring familial and societal responsibilities.
Symbolism: The Queen sits on a throne adorned with goats, fruit, and flowers, holding a pentacle. She is surrounded by a lush garden, symbolizing nurturing, practicality, and material abundance.
Guidance: This card resonates with Capricorn’s nurturing yet practical energy, encouraging us to care for our material needs while creating a stable and abundant environment.
Symbolism: The King sits regally on a throne with bull motifs, surrounded by grapevines. He holds a scepter and a pentacle, symbolizing wealth and authority. The castle and garden behind him signify prosperity and enduring success.
Guidance: Reflecting Capricorn’s leadership and financial acumen, this card advises us to take a responsible approach to managing our resources, ensuring long-term stability and success.
Symbolism: Long before the discovery of the planet Uranus, the original ruler of the sign of Aquarius and this tarot card was Saturn. A woman kneels by a pool, pouring water from two jugs. A large star and seven smaller stars illuminate the scene, symbolizing guidance and hope. The surrounding landscape is serene, suggesting renewal and clarity.
Guidance: The Star offers a vision of inspiration and calm during the Full Moon in Capricorn, encouraging us to trust in our goals and maintain hope and clarity as we pursue our ambitions.
By drawing on these cards during a Full Moon in Capricorn, we can align with its steady, goal-oriented energies, guiding us toward disciplined achievement and material security. Allow the wisdom of the tarot to support your journey under this grounding celestial influence.
First, here are my go-to’s for sprinkling a little abundance magic into my everyday life:
Our sense of smell goes directly to the limbic (euphoric, pleasurable sensations) part of the brain. It’s the only sense that doesn’t need to go through any sort of master control in the brain, which is why scent is such a powerful agent in any manifesting magic rituals. The use of scent via essential oils or incense immediately calms the nervous system and brings specific memories into the present moment.
These are all essential oils that are incorporated in many commercial “Prosperity” and “Abundance” blends. You can use all or simply pick 2 or 3 to create your own blend:
Orange (Citrus sinesis), frankincense (Boswellia carteri), patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), clove (Syzygium aromaticum), ginger (Zingiber officinale), myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) and spruce (Picea mariana).
Keep the essential oil at your prosperity altar to anoint yourself throughout the day to stay energetically aligned to the frequency of abundance. (My personal favorite blend from the Nature’s Alchemy line is 2 drops of Lemon, 1-2 drops of Orange and 1 drop of Clove. Mmmmmm, smells delicious.)
If you want your wallet to act as your temple of abundance, dab some essential oil on your bills.
Another way to use your magical blend is to add 5-10 drops to water, dip a mop or cloth into it and clean your floors and surfaces in your business and your home.
Ah, the sweet smell of success!
For the full moon in Capricorn, we will illuminate our senses and our minds with the essence of abundance.
To create your altar, use one or more of the tarot cards suggested above to bring potent energy into your field. If you’re ambivalent about using the Devil card as it is traditionally depicted, I highly recommend using a deck that deviates from the traditional symbolism. My favorite is The Voyager Tarot: Intuition Cards for the 21st Century, by James Wanless, Ph.D, available in the store and online.
Place a candle and any other items you wish to infuse with the full moon energy on your altar: money, water, crystal, shell, stone, sacred statue, etc.
If you want to infuse your coffee or tea in the morning with abundance-attracting cinnamon, place a half teaspoon into a small cup or dish to absorb the ritual energy. (Drinking coffee to start you up in the morning is a very “Capricornian” activity!)
Write your manifestation wish on a piece of paper and place it on the altar near the tarot card/s.
Light the candle. I suggest the colors red, brown or green to represent Saturn, earth and prosperity.
Gaze into the candle and touch your thumb and middle fingers together which form the Shuni Mudra, Seal of Patience. Shuni Mudra helps to encourage wisdom, purity, compassion, understanding and patience towards others and patience to fulfill one’s responsibilities. It helps turn negative emotions into positive ones.
Middle finger is related to the planet Saturn and the element of Ether (Akash), carries the energy of stability and strength. (Source: https://kundaliniyogaschool.org/2018/04/07/mudras-the-magic-in-your-fingers/)
As you say these words, put your hands over your altar and visualize that the energy of the cosmos is coming through your body and into the objects you are consecrating:
Spend time breathing into your wish: Inhale, breathe in the green-gold light of your wish and send it to every cell of your body. Exhale, breathe out the green-gold light of your wish throughout your aura and fill the entire room ... sending it out into the cosmos.
True abundance is not just the overflow of money and all good things, it is also harmony and peace in our relationships and in the world.
As we focus our collective magic on abundance and prosperity for all, we help beings on this planet remember that the source of our abundance is within our hearts. If we connect with Divine Abundance centered in our hearts first and foremost, we will always remain both in overflow and in balance.
