For those who enjoy deep musical listening, here is an electronic version of "liner notes" for next Wednesday's concert:
This band holds great virtuosity and a rich musical history. Tina Malias magical voice and profound gifts as a music maker have enabled her to span a multitude of musical genres. Malias vast body of work includes her own exquisite albums, as well as performances with artists such as Jai Uttal, Carlos Santana, India.Arie, Kenny Loggins, and Bassnectar.
GuruGanesha, perhaps best known for his supple, crystalline guitar work with bhakti superstar Snatam Kaur, is the founder of Spirit Voyage Records and a solo artist with a beguiling back catalog of albums and a new CD, Kundalini Surjhee, just out!
Acting as catalysts for the divine chemistry of Malia and GuruGanesha are multi-instrumentalist Hans Christian (Rasa, Krishna Das, Robbie Robertson, Jai Uttal, Vas), percussionist/producer Craig Kohland (Shamans Dream, Desert Dwellers, Dave Stringer, Donna DeLory), and fast rising young bassist Jared May.
Tina Malia has been one of my favorite singer/songwriters since her first album, Shores of Avalon, was released almost a decade ago. Follow that with the wonderful CD Silent Awakening and also Jaya Bhagavan, a fantastic chant CD with Shimshai, both release in 2006. In 2007, I was fortunate enough to see Malia in concert at Center of the Heart. What a powerful performance! The creative muse has blessed her songwriting & singing skills with such extraordinary soul.
Tina Malia & GuruGanesha Singh are two absolutely outstanding live performers. The sweetness, the dynamism, the expressive heart of their music fills every listener with joy, beauty and grace. Add to the mix, the incredible musical talents of Hans Christian, Craig Kohland and Jared May. A true powerhouse will be exhibited next Wednesday, May 4th, 7:30pm at Unity Church.
Om Shanti
